Mary Portas Rescue Plan for Bingo Halls

Open the door to any bingo hall now and you will be greeted with a somewhat deserted site. Minus the tumble weed there will be a few bingo players scattered around and the faint noise of the daubers hitting the bingo cards will be heard. These empty bingo halls have become more popular and have emerged due to people not having the same disposable income as they once had and also because of the introduction of online bingo. Playing bingo online from the comfort of your own home has become a massive success; however Mary Portas, the retail expert has a rescue plan for bingo halls.

Everyone has seen Mary Portas screaming on television about the dire state of the UK high street and now she has carried out her own independent review after she believes things have reached a crisis point. More than 25,000 shops – which includes bingo halls have closed since 2000 and Portas met with the Prime Minister this week to say that if urgent action is not taken the UK will lose something that has been central to our society.

As many units on the high street have closed and are now left empty the report which Mary Portas has come up with after a seven month investigation suggests that these empty stores should be turned into bingo halls, gyms and crèches which she believes will help to kick start community regeneration.

Bingo halls use to be really popular with people regularly attending for not only the chance to win money but also for the social aspect. However, if this comeback pays off then who knows, we might just witness visiting bingo halls to play a few games with friends come back into fashion.
